Thanks to the i3TitleIID grant professional development on Oct. 8, I was able to pick up some additional tips and strategies on how to get teachers to completely buy into the work of integrating technology into instruction. There are plenty of teachers who already see the benefit, then there are those who always look to stir up trouble. Overall, the school is moving in the right direction, but it would be nice to move the school without the troublemakers getting in the way.
In the coming days, I will get to try out the new strategies I picked up. Basically, I just have to get into the classrooms more to see what is going on and offer my suggestions right then.

iLearn Literacy
In this workshop I was able to expand my knowledge on the use of blogs in the literacy classroom; specifically how a blog can be used to help develop an essay. It can be used as a central location to post research links that others can view and comment on to determine the overall validity and effectiveness of the information. Students can then use the links that got the most favorable responses to gather information for their essays or reports. As time goes on, students learn on their own how to separate the useful links from the frivolous ones.

Retreat 2008
During the morning session, we were able to find out different learning styles of our faculty. We spend so much time trying to learn the styles of our students that we seem to forget that it is the teachers who also have different learning styles that they need to tap into. It was also quite reflective in that we need to pay attention to all of our students from different perspectives.
It is very important to reflect on individual practice and learn that one's shortcomings may be developed and enhanced through someone else. Where we may not be successful with a student, someone else may be. Remember, we all have varied learning styles and (as much as we may not want to admit) some limitations. This is a point that hits home for me.
Moving forward, I need more opportunity to force myself to step back and reflect. I guess I really need to start taking some of my own advice that I give to others.
